Detroit Lions

NFC North

The Detroit Lions have selected RB/S Sione Vaki with the No. 132 overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft.

Fantasy Impact: Vaki spent the majority of his college career at Utah as a safety but had a brief stint as an RB after the Utes found themselves in need of backfield help. Though Vaki has said in the past he would prefer to remain on defense, the Lions announced him as an RB in the draft, setting him up for a developmental role as the team's RB3/4. He had 42 carries for 317 yards and two TDs as an RB.

The Detroit Lions are bringing back WR Donovan Peoples-Jones on a one-year deal worth up to $2 million. (Source: Jordan Schultz on Twitter)

Fantasy Impact: Peoples-Jones was traded to Detroit midway through the season in exchange for a 2025 sixth-rounder. In eight games with the Lions, the former Cleveland Brown caught five passes for 58 yards. He only played on 13% of the offensive snaps and 14% of special teams snaps. With a cheap one-year deal, Peoples-Jones should be viewed as nothing more than a depth piece with field-stretching capabilities as he operates behind an established trio of receivers.

Tre'Quan Smith signs with Lions

Wed, Feb 7th 11:45am EST
By Nate Miller

Tre'Quan Smith has signed a Reserve-Future contract with the Lions. (Source: Aaron Wilson on Twitter)

Fantasy Impact: Following five seasons with the Saints, Smith spent almost all of the 2023 season on the Broncos practice squad. The former third-round pick, now 28, was not extending a contract offer by the Broncos, so that cleared the way for him to sign with another team. Smith gives the Lions some added depth at wide receiver, as the team could lose both Donovan Peoples-Jones and Josh Reynolds to free agency. Smith averaged 26 receptions for 353 yards with 18 total touchdowns for the Saints from 2018 to 2022.

Zach Ertz will not be activated from the Lions practice squad ahead of Sunday's NFC Championship Game. (Source: Jeremy Fowler on Twitter)

Fantasy Impact: Ertz signed with the Lions at the beginning of this past week. The veteran TE requested and was granted his release from the Cardinals back in November. Ertz was hoping to be ready to get on the field for the Lions this Sunday, as he reportedly worked very hard all week toward that goal. The Lions have ultimately decided against it. Sam LaPorta getting in a full practice Friday likely had something to do with the decision.
