Trace McSorley signs with Chicago’s practice squad

The Bears have signed QB Trace McSorley to their practice squad.

Fantasy Impact

With an injury to starter Justin Fields, the Bears needed to add depth to their quarterback room. McSorley would likely only see the field if rookie Tyson Bagent and Nathan Peterman suffered an injury.

Trace McSorley released by New England

The Patriots have released QB Trace McSorley.

Fantasy Impact

McSorley was in competition with Malik Cunningham for the Patriots’ QB3 spot throughout training camp. The 27-year-old does have NFL experience and could land with another team or look to join a practice squad before the start of the regular season.

Trace McSorley signs deal with New England Patriots

According to Field Yates and Jeremy Fowler of ESPN, the New England Patriots have signed free agent QB Trace McSorley to a one-year deal.

Fantasy Impact

The Patriots were actively looking for a mobile QB, according to Fowler, and McSorley provides that. Over his three NFL seasons, McSorley has only started one game, throwing for 217 yards on 45 attempts in Week 16 of 2022. McSorley will likely be the QB3 on the roster, though the idea that the Patriots actively sought after a mobile QB draws suspicion that they could use him in specific packages on occasion.

Trace McSorley does little in OT loss Sunday night

Trace McSorley completed 24 of 45 passes for 217 yards with an interception and rushed for 14 yards in Arizona's OT loss on Christmas night.

Fantasy Impact

McSorley almost got the upset win but fell just short of beating Tom Brady. It's unknown whether he'll start again in Week 17, but despite a favorable matchup against the Falcons, he's not a trustworthy fantasy option outside of deep two QB leagues.
