Justin Dunn (shoulder) shut down from throwing for a couple months

Cincinnati Reds pitcher Justin Dunn has been shut down from throwing for a couple of months due to right shoulder pain.

Fantasy Impact

Dunn will avoid surgery but use the time off to simply rest and let his shoulder heal. The right-hander owns a decent 4.44 ERA for his career across 32 starts, but his 6.23 FIP and minuscule 2.9% K-BB% suggest he's been extremely lucky to this point. Nonetheless, the 27-year-old likely won't be ready until around the All-Star break barring any setbacks in his recovery.

Justin Dunn lit up by the Brewers on Sunday

Justin Dunn fell to 1-3 after allowing six runs over three innings to the Brewers on Sunday. Half of the runs came via the long ball, as Dunn surrendered back-to-back dingers to Willy Adames and Rowdy Tellez in the second inning.

Fantasy Impact

Dunn's had a few good starts since joining the Reds' rotation; however, this outing highlights his inconsistency. With an ERA of 6.10 and WHIP of 1.58, Dunn's not someone you want to trust in your fantasy rotation down the stretch.

Justin Dunn bit by the long ball on Tuesday

Justin Dunn went four and two-thirds innings Tuesday, allowing three runs which all came via the long ball. He led 3-1 in the fifth inning until he served up a game-tying HR to Seiya Suzuki. The Reds lost the game 9-3, but Dunn didn't factor into the decision.

Fantasy Impact

Dunn has pitched well at times since making his season debut for the Reds on August 8th but is averaging less than five innings per outing which limits his usefulness for fantasy. Next up for him should be at the Brewers on Sunday, which is not a great option if you're looking for a streamer.

Justin Dunn pulled after four innings Tuesday with Shoulder Stiffness

Justin Dunn pitched well against the Cardinals Tuesday, allowing only one run and three hits through four innings. Dunn left the start early due to shoulder stiffness, but he's confident he'll make his next start.

Fantasy Impact

Dunn has pitched well for the Reds over his last three starts allowing only four earned runs over his previous 15 innings. It would still be hard to trust him for fantasy purposes, but he's worth monitoring, assuming this shoulder issue doesn't turn into an injury. If he makes his next scheduled start, it will be against the Cubs next Tuesday.

Justin Dunn pitches well in loss to Phillies Thursday

Justin Dunn allowed two runs over six innings Thursday but still took the loss as the offense failed to score off Aaron Nola. Dunn struck out five and gave up four hits, including a home run to Kyle Schwarber.

Fantasy Impact

Dunn has pitched well in two straight starts after getting roughed up in his first two with the team. He'll need a few more quality outings before earning any fantasy credibility, though. His ERA now sits at 5.12, but his FIP is at 7.31, which is concerning.
