Jason Kipnis announces retirement from the MLB

Jason Kipnis announced his retirement on Monday from the MLB.

Fantasy Impact

Kipnis was last on Atlanta in the minor leagues in 2021 and last on the Cubs in the MLB in 2020. He played with Cleveland from 2011-19 where he spent most of his career. One of his best seasons came in 2015 when he hit .303 with 12 stolen bases. He also hit 23 home runs the following season. Kipnis finishes his MLB career hitting .260 at the plate overall with 126 home runs.

Jason Kipnis goes 1-for-3 Tuesday

Jason Kipnis went 1-for-3 with a single and a strikeout in Tuesday's spring game against the Red Sox.

Fantasy Impact

Kipnis is vying for a bench spot this year and he has done a decent job this spring. He's slashing .250/.308/.417 thus far, certainly not excellent numbers, but serviceable for a bench spot. He can play outfield plus back-up Albies at second base.

Jason Kipnis went 1-for-3 Sunday against the Rays with a two-run homer and two strikeouts.

Fantasy Impact

Kipnis hasn't shown much this spring but is in competition to secure a bench spot when camp breaks.

Jason Kipnis agrees to deal with Braves

Veteran second baseman Jason Kipnis posted on his own social media account today that he has agreed to a deal with the Atlanta Braves. Jon Heyman of the MLB Network has confirmed it is a minor league contract with an invitation to MLB camp during spring training.

Fantasy Impact

The 33-year-old infielder will likely provide depth for Atlanta as a utility infielder and a left-handed bat off the bench behind starter Ozzie Albies. Once a fantasy star, Kipnis can be ignored in fantasy leagues at this stage of his career.

Jason Kipnis scores a run Sunday versus the White Sox

Jason Kipnis walked and came around to score Sunday. It was a good way to end the regular season but he simply did not get enough playing time.

Fantasy Impact

He found ways to produce when he started but that simply was not often enough in most leagues. He probably needs to either find a new team or have Hoerner injured to return much value in 2021.
