The pact comes with an invite to major league spring training. The long-time Kansas City Royals lefty was traded to the Dodgers at the 2021 trade deadline, but a forearm issue not only caused him to miss the remainder of the 2021 season but the entirety of the 2022 campaign as well. When healthy, the 34-year-old has been productive with a career 3.95 ERA across 234 appearances and 204 starts. Given his 2.51 ERA and 25.8% K% prior to his 2021 trade, Duffy makes sense as a low-risk addition for the Rangers.

Duffy would have been slated to make $7 million on his option. The move is understandable as Duffy's time in Los Angeles was spent dealing with injuries that prevented him from ever pitching for the Dodgers. Duffy will now be a free agent.

Duffy was surprisingly good in 2021 with a 2.51 ERA and 1.21 WHIP, but to expect him to have a fantasy impact at his age, with his injury, in his role, and given his timeline, would be foolhardy. Wish him well, but not on your fantasy team.

Last season, Duffy was traded from the Royals to Dodgers at the trade deadline but never pitched for Los Angeles. Health is a big concern for the lefty who has a 4.03 ERA in 248 innings over the last three seasons.
